Today, I’m beyond honored to share a moment that’s both deeply personal and professionally fulfilling: the title and cover of my new book are now officially complete.
🎨 The Business of Art: How to Become a Successful Artist in Today’s Market
It feels surreal to even write those words. This book is more than a project, it’s a piece of my heart. It’s a tribute to the conversations I’ve had over the years with artists, gallery owners, curators, and creatives who have generously shared their stories, struggles, and triumphs. And it’s rooted in my own journey, decades of navigating what it really means to live as an artist, not just in theory, but in the real world.
Why This Book, and Why Now?
The idea for this book had been quietly forming inside me for years. I’ve witnessed too many brilliant artists give up, not because they lacked talent or vision, but because they didn’t have the tools or guidance to turn their creativity into a sustainable life.
We’re taught how to create art, how to refine our craft—but rarely are we taught how to build a career as an artist. The “business” side of art often feels intimidating, elusive, or even contrary to our creative instincts. But here’s what I’ve come to believe with every fiber of my being:
Art and business do not have to be at odds.
They can, and must, work together—so you can continue doing the work you’re called to do.
Who This Book Is For
This book is for the working artist. For the painter navigating gallery representation. For the sculptor balancing commissions with passion projects. For the photographer wondering how to price their work. For the creative who wakes up every day and chooses to keep going, even when the path isn’t clear.
Whether you’re just beginning to consider your art as a livelihood or have been in the game for years but feel stuck, this book was written with you in mind. You’ll find honest stories, practical advice, and real-world insights from people who’ve done it—and are still doing it.
What You’ll Find Inside
The Business of Art is a combination of lived experience, expert interviews, and actionable guidance. Here’s just a glimpse of what you can expect:
- Foundations of a Sustainable Art Practice: From setting goals to understanding your value
- Pricing Your Work: The emotional and financial balance of putting a price tag on creativity
- Marketing & Branding: How to share your work with the world without losing your voice
- Working with Galleries & Collectors: Demystifying the relationships that drive the art world
- Money Matters: Budgeting, taxes, contracts, and all the things most art schools don’t teach
- Mindset & Resilience: How to stay grounded and inspired, even when things get tough
You’ll also find words from artists who’ve been through the same struggles—and have found ways to thrive. Their wisdom, vulnerability, and hard-won advice are what make this book truly come alive.

Behind the Cover
The cover design holds a special place in my heart. It’s not just a visual, it’s a reflection of what this book stands for: clarity, courage, and the beauty of embracing your path.
It took months to land on the right concept, one that honored both the creative spirit and the professional strength artists carry. I hope when you see it, you feel seen. You feel invited. You feel like this book was meant for you, because it was.
A Thank You From the Bottom of My Heart
To those who’ve shared their insights, stories, and time with me throughout this process, thank you. This book would not exist without the collective wisdom of our community. Every late-night Zoom call, every candid coffee chat, every brave truth spoken, it’s all woven into these pages.
To those who’ve encouraged me, supported this journey, or simply followed along, your presence matters more than you know. You are why I write. You are why I believe in this work.
What Comes Next?
We’re just getting started. Over the next few weeks and months, I’ll be sharing sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes moments, and release details. If you’re curious about the process or want to walk alongside me in this journey, I’d be honored to have you.
Final Thoughts
If I could leave you with one message today, it would be this:
You are allowed to thrive as an artist.
You are allowed to build a life that sustains you emotionally, creatively, and financially.
You don’t have to choose between your art and your stability, you can have both.
The Business of Art is my offering to the creative community. May it meet you wherever you are on your journey and remind you that your work and your voice, matters.
With all my heart,
Lauren
Stay tuned.
