October 29, 2025 – December 29, 2025
The painting The Roots of Baltic Spirit beautifully weaves together architecture, memory, and cultural tradition. The scene is set in the cobblestone streets of Riga’s Old Town, where medieval spires and ornate façades rise with dignity, evoking Latvia’s layered history as a crossroads of trade, culture, and resilience. The cool tones of the stone buildings are balanced with the warmth of golden light, suggesting both endurance and hope.
At the heart of the composition, a couple dances hand in hand, dressed in traditional Latvian national costumes. Their attire recalls folk festivals and centuries-old rituals, when music and movement bound communities together across generations. Their presence in the street is not just decorative—it symbolizes continuity, a living tradition that has survived wars, occupations, and political upheavals. The dance, light-hearted and graceful, becomes an act of cultural resilience.
The contrast between the permanence of the architecture and the fleeting joy of the dancers mirrors Latvia’s history itself: a people deeply rooted in their land and traditions, yet always moving forward with vitality and creativity. The painting captures that essence—the Baltic spirit as both grounded and free, tied to heritage yet alive in the present.
The Roots of Baltic Spirit reminds us that culture is not static; it breathes in the streets, in the music, and in the steps of those who carry it forward.

The Roots of Baltic Spirit

The Roots of Baltic Spirit landscape paintings project lies in its unique blend of personal artistic experience, cultural representation, and technical skill. I created it using different techniques, and it embodies the artist’s vision and interpretation of Latvian traditions through art.
The history of the Latvian nation is marked by significant suffering due to foreign domination, war, and repression. However, resilience has been a defining characteristic of the Latvian people, evident in their persistent struggle for independence, cultural preservation, and national identity. Today, Latvia continues to navigate modern challenges while honoring its past and celebrating its sovereignty.
.1 This digital painting, “The Roots of the Baltic Spirit,” depicts a view of the Baltic Sea and the Daugava River, carefully incorporating elements that symbolize Latvia’s rich cultural heritage. Latvian symbols, including the Baltic Pine Tree, are deliberate and respectful references to the country’s natural environment and its deep connection to nature. The depiction of human veins symbolically emerging from the Baltic trees further emphasizes the spiritual relationship between the people and their environment in Latvian traditions.

2. In this surreal digital painting, the scene vividly celebrates resilience and renewal, capturing the essence of a nation that has triumphed over adversity. At the forefront, three girls, adorned in vibrant national costumes, are poised to leap over a crackling fire. Their outfits, rich in color and intricate patterns, symbolize the culture and spirit of their people, radiating joy and hope as they prepare to perform a traditional ritual.
Surrounding them, a dense grove of birch trees ( we all know how gorgeous Baltic birch trees are) rises majestically, yet with a disquieting twist—each tree appears to be crafted from human bones, its white trunks resembling skeletal forms. This eerie juxtaposition serves as a stark reminder of the nation’s suffering, transforming pain into a haunting yet beautiful backdrop for the celebration.
In the distance, a serene river, the Daugava, flows gently, its waters reflecting the colors of the sky. The river Daugava symbolizes continuity and healing, a lifeline that has witnessed the struggles and triumphs of the nation
This surreal landscape encapsulates the duality of celebration and remembrance, illustrating the strength of a nation that has emerged victorious from the depths of despair.
