Every April, we celebrate Arts, Culture, & Creativity Month—a time to honor the creative forces that shape our communities, challenge our thinking, and reflect our shared humanity. This initiative was established in California by Californians for the Arts to advocate for the arts as essential to a thriving society. It emphasizes the profound role artists play not just in cultural enrichment but also in mental health, education, economic development, and social justice. Over time, the movement has spread nationally, inviting people everywhere to recognize how deeply creativity is woven into the fabric of our daily lives.

As an artist, I see this month as both a celebration and a call to action. My journey into art was non-linear—I pivoted from a successful career in the medical field to return to my long-held dream of becoming a professional artist.

That leap led me through university programs in New York and England, where I deepened my understanding of art history and cultural traditions.

Art, to me, is more than a visual language—it’s a bridge between cultures, between nature and spirit, between the fleeting and the eternal. I draw from my Latvian heritage, my travels through Europe and Asia, and the beauty of the natural world. My practice is rooted in the belief that creativity is not a luxury—it’s a necessity for emotional connection, healing, and joy.

This April, I reflect on how art has transformed my life and connected me to others. I celebrate not just what I create, but the global conversation I get to be part of—one brushstroke, one story, one moment of beauty at a time.
